|My name is Mark Green and my dedication to Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure’s mission is as personal as it gets—I am a brain cancer survivor. In the summer of 2011, the news of my diagnosis hit me and my family like a bolt of lightning. Two brain surgeries and 33 radiation treatments later, I am lucky to be living a fairly normal life. While most days I remain optimistic about the future, one thought always lingers in the back of my mind - my brain cancer is incurable and may recur.||
Prior to my diagnosis, I had never given much thought to the disease. However, over the last year, I have learned a lifetime of information. In the beginning it was easy to feel defeated. I was shaken by the fact that, even though the average life expectancy for GBM patients is only 12-15 months and brain tumors are the second leading cause of cancer deaths among children, there has been little commercial motivation to invest in research because brain cancer accounts for only 2% of all cancers.
Research holds the cure—but all research is NOT created equal!
When I discovered Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure I was inspired by its unique approach. It’s an organization that understands that the lack of treatments stemmed from not only a funding shortage, but also the risk-averse nature of traditional nonprofits and a lack of effective research collaborations. ABC2 is on a mission to be a catalyst for real progress and its strategic funding model allowed it to help accelerate the drug discovery process and bridge the research gap that existed between academic researchers and pharmaceutical companies.
Brain cancer is not a one-size-fits-all disease and the approach to treatments can't afford to be either. We need smart, focused and dedicated groups infusing the right amount of money into the right projects at the right time. And I am confident that Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure has the greatest chance of achieving real impact in my lifetime.

We simply cannot afford to wait for a cure. We must make it happen. The fight should be personal to everyone. After all, this disease does not discriminate and knows no age, race, gender or economic status. The only way to protect ourselves and our loved ones is to aggressively accelerate the research that will lead to new treatments and one day a cure.
In order for Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure to remain at the forefront of cutting-edge research they need our help. I encourage you to join me and donate now to support this important work—$5, $10, every dollar counts!
