At ABC2 we believe that a fearless, can-do spirit will lead to brain cancer research breakthroughs and so do our supporters! Last month, our friends went to extremes to raise funds and awareness in three ABC2-sponsored events: Crossing the Canyon, Over The Edge San Diego and the Marine Corps Marathon.
Crossing The Canyon
On October 3, 2021 a small team of warriors, led by BethAnn Telford and Maria Parker, stood together on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon with a shared mission: to beat brain cancer. The Rim-to-Rim took the team from the North Rim down to the canyon floor, across the canyon, then up to the South Rim over 25 miles and more than 10,000 feet of elevation change. It is a powerful metaphor for the race to end brain cancer. The canyon represents the valley of death of underfunded research. Click here for coverage by the Grand Canyon News.
Now that BethAnn, Maria and the team have completed the Rim to Rim run, we are working on sharing the story of these two women whose impact will extend beyond the walls of the canyon, inspiring and giving hope to those battling brain cancer. Your support will help us reach our $100,000 fundraising goal to support brain cancer research and produce the "Crossing the Canyon" short documentary film, which will help Maria and BethAnn continue to inspire others! Over the Edge San Diego
On October 16-17, 2015, we went Over the Edge for Brain Cancer for the third year and raised over $200,000 to support San Diego-based brain cancer research. Thank you to all of our incredible edgers, sponsors, partners and supporters. Kudos to Michele and Kyle who went Over The Edge the day before their wedding! Be sure to check out the GoPro videos of all our participants on ABC2's YouTube Channel. To date, with funds raised by the San Diego community at Over the Edge for Brain Cancer, ABC2 has funded a project at UCSD and Regulus Therapeutics to address challenges of recurrent tumor detection, as well as a project with UCSD, ASU and Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Research Discovery Institute to develop an immunosignature-based blood test for detecting, classifying and monitoring pediatric medulloblastoma over time.
Marine Corps Marathon
On October 25, 2015, a passionate group of runners, who are all dedicated to finding a cure for brain cancer, ran in the 40th Marine Corps Marathon to benefit ABC2. The 26.2 mile course, nicknamed "The Marathon of the Monuments" wound runners through the most picturesque parts of Arlington, VA and Washington, DC. On the day before the race, the group gathered downtown to meet each other, share their stories and enjoy a carb-loaded lunch! Congrats and thanks to all our runners and special shout out to our top fundraiser Steven Erickson!
