Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure extends our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Dr. Bernadine Healy. Dr. Bernadine Healy passed away on Saturday, August 6 from a recurrence of brain cancer. She was the former director of the National Institutes of Health and the American Red Cross.

Partnership with The V Foundation Raises $1 Million For Brain Tumor Research

The 13th annual V Foundation Wine Celebration took place August 5-6 in the Napa Valley and raised more than $4 million for cancer research, including $1 million specifically for brain tumor research through a partnership with Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure.  The event is a signature fund-raiser for The V Foundation, started by legendary basketball coach Jim Valvano.

ABC2 and Miles For Hope Collaborate To Fund Brain Cancer Vaccine At UCLA

Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure (ABC2) and Miles For Hope have jointly awarded a $100,000 grant to Drs. Linda Liau and Robert Prins at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) for their project: Optimizing Dendritic Cell Vaccination for Low-Grade Glioma Patients.  The grant enables the UCLA researchers to expand the vaccine trial to include patients that have been diagnosed with low-grade gliomas, a common form of brain cancer.

TIME Magazine Highlights ABC2 "Venture-Charity" Model

The June issue of TIME Magazine featured a special edition on cancer research advancements and the charities that fund them.  Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure was named one of "the stars of the venture-charity model" - an innovative non-profit model that is focused on results and driven by a sense of entrepreneurism. 

ABC2-Funded Vaccine Trial Shows Promise

There is encouraging news about the results of a Phase 2 clinical trial on a new brain cancer vaccine.  All the patients in the trial have shown an immune response.  Researchers have also found that the vaccine is safe and less toxic than conventional treatments and that it could extend survival for people with recurrent glioblastoma.  The research was partially funded with matching grants by Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure, the National Institutes of Health, the American Brain Tumor Association and the National Brain Tumor Society.

WHO Report: Cell Phones "Possibly" Cause Brain Cancer

Last week, a branch of the World Health Organization weighed in on the much debated question of a cell phone/brain cancer link.  The International Agency for Research into Cancer (IARC) announced that "radio frequency electromagnetic fields" - the type transmitted by by cell phones - as a "possible" cause of cancer in humans.
