Funding Helps Vaccine Trial Move Forward For Low-Grade Glioma Patients

Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure (ABC2) and Miles For Hope have jointly awarded a $100,000 grant to Drs. Linda Liau and Robert Prins at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) for their project: Optimizing Dendritic Cell Vaccination for Low-Grade Glioma Patients.  The grant enables the UCLA researchers to expand the vaccine trial to include patients that have been diagnosed with low-grade gliomas, a common form of brain cancer.

ABC2 Is Lead Non-Profit Partner

There is encouraging news about the results of a Phase 2 clinical trial on a new brain cancer vaccine.  All the patients in the trial have shown an immune response.  Researchers have also found that the vaccine is safe and less toxic than conventional treatments and that it could extend survival for people with recurrent glioblastoma.  The research was partially funded with matching grants by Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure, the National Institutes of Health, the American Brain Tumor Association and the National Brain Tumor Society.

Last week, a branch of the World Health Organization weighed in on the much debated question of a cell phone/brain cancer link.  The International Agency for Research into Cancer (IARC) announced that "radio frequency electromagnetic fields" - the type transmitted by by cell phones - as a "possible" cause of cancer in humans.
