Researchers with UCLA’s Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center have developed and used a high-throughput molecular screening approach that identifies and characterizes chemical compounds that can target the stem cells that are responsible for creating deadly brain tumors.

American Idol winner aims to raise $100,000 in honor of his brother

American Idol champion David Cook announced today he plans to run his first marathon and launch a fundraising campaign to help find a cure for brain cancer, which claimed his brother’s life two years ago. Cook says he hopes to raise $100,000 leading up to the 2012 Honda LA Marathon on behalf of Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure (ABC2).

2011 Annual Scientific Retreat

Wednesday, September 28, 2021 to Friday, September 30, 2021

Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure will hold its tenth annual Scientific Retreat from September 28-30th in Sausalito, California.  Leaders on the frontier of cancer research, along with top funders, convene to share promising translational research developments, foster collaboration and identify new opportunities for the coming year.

The retreat will be attended by preeminent scientists and clinicians, as well as patients, industry and government officials representing more than 25 institutions, including: UCLA, Genentech, Duke University, Amgen, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Google, UCSD, Tocagen, The Chordoma Foundation, Harvard/Dana Farber, UCSF, The National Brain Tumor Society,  Johns Hopkins, MD Anderson Cancer Center, Novartis, The V Foundation, Quintiles Innovation, Agios, The Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research and others.

The presentations will focus on innovations in translational research, including: multiple genetic pathways that lead to brain cancer, therapeutic potential of targeting the IDH1 gene, and immune therapy approaches to battling the disease.

Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure extends our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Dr. Bernadine Healy. Dr. Bernadine Healy passed away on Saturday, August 6 from a recurrence of brain cancer. She was the former director of the National Institutes of Health and the American Red Cross.

Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure Helps Spotlight Brain Tumor Research at The V Foundation Wine Celebration

The 13th annual V Foundation Wine Celebration took place August 5-6 in the Napa Valley and raised more than $4 million for cancer research, including $1 million specifically for brain tumor research through a partnership with Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure.  The event is a signature fund-raiser for The V Foundation, started by legendary basketball coach Jim Valvano.

Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure is proud to team up with The V Foundation for the 13th Annual V Foundation Wine Celebration on August 5th & 6th in the beautiful Napa Valley. 

The V Wine Celebration is a world class event hosted by Mike Krzyzewski and his wife, Mickie.  Coach K is the Head Basketball Coach of Duke University, the 2010 NCAA Men's Basketball National Champions, the 2010 FIBA World Champions, and the 2008 Gold Medal U.S. Men's Olympic Team. 

The V Wine Celebration event brings together guests from the sports, broadcasting, entertainment, media, technology, oncology, investment, lifestyle and winemaking worlds to raise money for the fight against cancer.  All net proceeds are applied directly to innovative cancer research grants and opportunities. 

Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure will be the recipient of the 2011 Fund A Need segment of The V Wine Celebration and is excited to partner with The V Foundation to fund promising brain cancer research.
