Each of the 40 Race Towards A Cure – Marine Corps Marathon(MCM) runners have worked hard over the last few months to raise funds and awareness to find a cure for brain cancer, all while training to run a marathon or a 10K. One such runner is James Nellis, the captain of Team Cure.

American Idol champion David Cook announced today he plans to run his first marathon and launch a fundraising campaign to help find a cure for brain cancer, which claimed his brother’s life two years ago. Cook says he hopes to raise $100,000 leading up to the 2012 Honda LA Marathon on behalf of Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure (ABC2).
Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure extends our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Dr. Bernadine Healy. Dr. Bernadine Healy passed away on Saturday, August 6 from a recurrence of brain cancer. She was the former director of the National Institutes of Health and the American Red Cross.

The 13th annual V Foundation Wine Celebration took place August 5-6 in the Napa Valley and raised more than $4 million for cancer research, including $1 million specifically for brain tumor research through a partnership with Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure. The event is a signature fund-raiser for The V Foundation, started by legendary basketball coach Jim Valvano.

Funding Helps Vaccine Trial Move Forward For Low-Grade Glioma Patients

Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure (ABC2) and Miles For Hope have jointly awarded a $100,000 grant to Drs. Linda Liau and Robert Prins at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) for their project: Optimizing Dendritic Cell Vaccination for Low-Grade Glioma Patients. The grant enables the UCLA researchers to expand the vaccine trial to include patients that have been diagnosed with low-grade gliomas, a common form of brain cancer.
