Sun Shines on 3rd Annual Florida Brain Cancer 5k

LAKE WORTH, FL - More than 1,000 runners and walkers joined forces on Sunday, March 25th for the 3rd Annual Florida Brain Cancer 5k Run/Walk, and together raised more than $140,000 to benefit brain cancer research projects and collaborations through Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure.

“It's inspiring to see survivors, family and friends coming together to support each other and to fund cutting-edge research,” said Max Wallace, CEO of Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure. “Thanks to the dollars raised by race participants and supporters, ABC2 is able to partner with the Florida Center for Brain Tumor Research and continue to build a world-class research network right here in Florida.”

In addition to raising funds for a cure, the event was an opportunity to celebrate the lives of the loved ones diagnosed with brain cancer and provide support for one another.  "Last year when my Mom was diagnosed with a GBM Grade IV, we had no idea what it was," said Randi Meckler Berg, team captain of Walking for the Warlord.  "We had never met anyone who had it, and had only recently heard about it because of Ted Kennedy and Gary Carter.  This event is extremely important because it not only helps those families affected by brain cancer know they are not alone, but it raises awareness for others -- and most of all it raises money for the researchers!"

At the Survivor's Tribute, Sarah Kravchuk, brain tumor survivor and team captain of Sarah's Knockouts, rallied the crowd with her inspiring words, "I challenge you all to continue to fight day after day, letting your fears fuel your fight, until one day, we have cured and knocked out brain cancer for good!"  The family-friendly run/walk also featured a Kids Fun Run, delicious donated food, great music from the School of Rock, and a Wall of Hope displaying pictures of brain tumor survivors and of those who have lost their battle with this devastating disease.

Special thanks to our top family and friend fundraising teams: Walking for the Warlord, The Greene Team, R.O.B.’s Hope – Recognizing Our Battle, and Team Beaton.  Our event continues to grow thanks to generous support from top sponsors, including: the Rendina Companies, Versa Property Management, The Case Foundation, Genentech, Liebowitz Realty Group, Bruce Lein, DDS, and Promega.

It's not too late to donate! Donate online through April 15th.  For more information, visit www.floridabraincancer5k.org
