FCBTR/ABC2 Partnership Seeks Proposals To Develop Brain Tumor Treatments

The Florida Center for Brain Tumor Research (FCBTR) and Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure (ABC2) have issued a joint funding opportunity for research proposals designed to develop new and effective brain tumor treatments.

Proposals may be focused on basic science, translational, or clinical research.  The Principal Investigator must be conducting her/his research in Florida.  Proposals are due December 15, 2014.  Click HERE for the grant proposal application.

ABC2 and FCBTR began their unique matching grants partnership in 2010.  ABC2 was invited by FCBTR to organize a national research review committee to review and award grant funds to researchers in the state of Florida.  Since 2010, dollars raised at ABC2's Florida Brain Cancer 5k have been matched by the state of Florida to award a total of $625,000 in research grants to Florida-based researchers.

FCBTR is a collaborative effort and its Scientific Advisory Council includes top researchers from H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute, Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic Florida, Scripps Research Institute, MD Anderson Cancer Center Orlando, University of Miami and a representative of neurosurgeons in private practice. FCBTR has sponsored statewide Brain Tumor Biomedical Technology Summits to encourage collaboration.

Since 2006, the FCBTR at the Evelyn F. and William L. McKnight Brain Institute of the University of Florida has worked with hospitals statewide to collect tissue and disseminate data on brain tumors, creating a powerful tool to facilitate clinical trials, funding opportunities and research collaborations.
