Sierra Alef-Defoe

Fall Associate, Research and Communications

Sierra is a co-founder of the Pink Polka Dots Guild, which raises money for pediatric brain cancer research. Founded in 2006 in memory of the late Sydney Coxon, the guild has raised over $600,000 for the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle.

As a third year student of Comparative Healthcare Law at the University of California Berkeley, Sierra examines the role that markets and policies play in access to quality healthcare in both the US and abroad. Her goals are to bring better cancer treatments to patients faster and more affordably, with the ultimate aim of curing cancer.

Sierra joins Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure this fall to further these goals as an Associate in Research and Communications. Before ABC2, Sierra spent over a year conducting policy research at Children Now, a non-profit which advocates for children’s health and education in California.

Sierra enjoys traveling in France, visiting art museums, pescatarian cooking, and sports including hiking, running, and bicycling.
