The Rendina Family Foundation's 7th Annual Raising the B.A.R. Bruce A. Rendina Memorial Golf Tournament took place on October 25-26 at The Breakers in Palm Beach, Florida. The annual tournament commemorates the life and legacy of Bruce Rendina, one of the country’s most accomplished real estate developers and philanthropists. This year, the proceeds from the tournament benefitted Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure's collaborative funding project to support the new immunotherapy program at University of Florida.
The weekend of festivities began with a welcome reception sponsored by Davis Stokes Collaborative, P.C., Healthcare Real Estate Capital, LLC and Seminole Coconut Creek. The guest speaker was Dr. Duane Mitchell, Director of the University of Florida Brain Tumor Immunotherapy Program. Dr. Mitchell’s newly established immunotherapy program, focuses on advancing safe and effective treatments for pediatric and adult brain tumors by harnessing the killing power of the immune system to recognize and reject brain tumor cells while leaving normal brain tissues unharmed. Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure is working with Dr. Mitchell and his team to advance vaccine trials. “The vaccine clinical trial that we are supporting is only the first of a number of projects that will come from the Center,” said Max Wallace, CEO of Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure. “The Rendina Family Foundation is an important partner in this effort. Working together, we can truly make important and immediate impacts for patients.”
Bruce Rendina, along with wife Marji, created the Rendina Family Foundation in 1997. The Rendina Family Foundation strives to enhance the quality of life for families and individuals who have been affected by cancer. Since its inception, the foundation has donated more than $5 million to organizations nationwide. The Rendina Family Foundation is also a generous supporter and sponsor of ABC2’s Florida Brain Cancer 5k Run/Walk.
