I am a now adult survivor of a cystic astrocytoma at age 6.  It was inoperable because of its location, deep in my brain, between the thalamus and hypothalamus.  I had four operations, the first being exploratory and the rest being to drain the cyst.  I was eventually treated with experimental radiation therapy at Stanford Medical Center in California, nearby where I was living. The tumor was eventually eradicated and required no further surgery.
